Organic Cotton

Why are we using the US Postal Service for our shipping?

The USPS is the only shipper to achieve Cradle to Cradle Certification. They are a great example of government doing its part for the environment. For more information about this certification, please visit the USPS website at www.usps.com/green/eco.htm. For further reading on the subject, we suggest the excellent book 'Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things', written by German chemist Michael Braungart and architect William McDonough. In their book Braungart and McDonough outline how we can move from the 'take-make-waste' process, through design and materials, to eliminate the concept of waste entirely.

Why do we put one piece of paper in our packages and nothing else?

There’s no need to wrap your items in plastic and bombard you with printed special offers, all of which you would end up throwing in the trash. Instead, we want you to plant the paper (it holds seeds) and recycle the package so you throw nothing in the trash. For all other correspondence, use electrons – that is, contact us on our website. For all other correspondence, please email us at customerservice@iloveearth.com.

Why Recycled Paper?

When we ship your order, we use USPS supplies that carry cradle-to-cradle certification (see above) or we use envelopes made from 100% recycled paper. Recycling paper puts the paper back in the production loop and keeps it out of the trash. Paper accounts for 40% of all municipal waste. Recycling not only helps preserve our forests, it takes 40% less energy and 55% less water to produce.

Why organic cotton?

Nearly one-third of a pound of chemicals are used in order to produce the amount of cotton needed to make one standard t-shirt. Many of these chemicals are classified as extremely dangerous and highly toxic by the Environmental Protection Agency. Additionally, cotton grown in the United States accounts for 25% of all pesticides used. By switching to organic cotton, we are voicing our concerns for the environment through our purchases without sacrificing quality. This is a small, yet extremely important change that must be made.
